Can My Printer Print TPU?
Your printer can print TPU reliably if it has a direct-drive extruder — on a Bowden-tube printer, flexible filament buckles inside the long PTFE tube and jams, which is the single most common TPU failure. Print 95A TPU at roughly 220–235°C nozzle, 40–60°C bed, and slow speeds around 20–40mm/s; no enclosure is needed.
The one spec that decides it
TPU is a flexible, rubber-like material, and pushing a soft strand down a long tube is like pushing a rope. A direct-drive extruder sits at the hotend, so there's almost nowhere for the filament to buckle; a Bowden extruder is mounted on the frame and pushes filament through a PTFE tube, where TPU compresses and folds. Most current printers — including the popular entry machines in our first-printer guide — ship direct drive, but many older bedslingers are Bowden. If yours is, a direct-drive conversion kit is the fix, with a real tradeoff: the added toolhead mass slightly lowers achievable speed and acceleration.

Start with 95A, not softer
Shore hardness is the number on the label: 95A is the standard "easy mode" flexible — firm enough for the extruder gears to grip and feed consistently. Softer grades exist for squishier parts, but they magnify every feeding problem, so they're a poor first flexible spool even on direct drive.
